The 5 Best-Selling Bed Stu Bags at The Farmhouse

People ask us all the time which Bed Stu bag they should get, and for a long time my answer was whichever one you keep picking up. Which is true, and also completely unhelpful when you're shopping at eleven at night from your couch.

So I pulled the actual numbers instead. These are the five Bed Stu bags that sold the most at The Farmhouse over a twelve-month stretch, ranked by how many went out the door. Not my favorites, not what we bought the most of — what women actually chose out of the whole Bed Stu bag collection.

A couple of them surprised me. One of them I would not have guessed at all. And if you want the sizing conversation first, start with what size Bed Stu bag you should get — that's the question behind most of these picks.

1. The Rockababy in Oats Icicle Rustic — 25 sold

The runaway winner, and it wasn't close: 25 units, well ahead of second place. What makes it interesting is that all 25 went in a single three-month stretch. The bag landed, and it just moved.

The Rockababy is the smaller sibling of the Rockaway, and honestly it's the better bag for most people. Fourteen inches wide by nine high by four deep, which is the size that actually fits a life: wallet, sunglasses, a water bottle, your kid's snacks, without turning into a duffel.

What it has going for it, straight off the spec sheet:

  • Padded shoulder straps, which almost nothing in this price range bothers with
  • A removable, adjustable crossbody strap, so it's two bags
  • Zip-top closure — no open tote anxiety
  • One outer zip pocket, one zip pocket and two slip pockets inside
  • Chrome- and formaldehyde-free vegetable-tanned leather, handmade in León, Mexico

Oats Icicle Rustic is a soft pale neutral in the clean, smoother Rustic finish with that low sheen — it goes with everything and it doesn't read casual the way a tan bag sometimes can. If you want the details on what Rustic means versus Lux, we broke all of that down in our guide to Bed Stu leather finishes.

That exact colorway isn't on the site, so if the Rockababy body is what you're after, go to the mid-size Bed Stu bags and work from there. The Rockababy in Black Hand Wash at $294.99 is the same body in a distressed black, and the Rockababy in Tan Dip Dye, also $294.99, is the same body with a hand-dipped gradient instead of a flat color.

2. The Venice Beach in Americana Lux — 18 sold

This is the one that genuinely surprised me. Americana Lux is a bold colorway, and bold colorways usually move slower than neutrals. This one outsold most of our neutrals, 18 units in twelve months.

The Venice Beach is a different animal from the Rockababy — smaller and more structured, at 9.5 inches wide by 10 high by only 2 deep, with a 15-inch strap drop. That shallow depth is the whole point. It's a flap-and-buckle silhouette that holds its shape and sits flat against you, so it looks intentional rather than lived-in even when it's full.

Flap opening with a heavy hardware buckle closure, one interior zip pocket and two interior slip pockets, two exterior zip pockets, worn crossbody.

Who it's for: you want a bag that looks put together, you carry less than you think you do, and you'd rather have the thing look sharp than hold a laptop.

The Americana Lux version isn't on the site. If that red-white-and-blue look is what pulled you in, the Bed Stu Americana collection is where those live. For the Venice Beach body itself, the Venice Beach in Black Rustic and the Venice Beach in Tan Rustic are the same bag in the clean Rustic finish at $239.99 each — and if neither color is right, the rest sit in small Bed Stu bags. We wrote up the full colorway lineup in the Venice Beach color guide if you want to compare.

3. The Stuffy Satchel in Black Hand Wash — 17 sold

The workhorse, and the one that makes this list a photo finish: it tied the Abundance at 17 units and took third place on dollars. This is a proper satchel with dual top handles and an adjustable shoulder strap, in a distressed black hand wash finish designed to look worn from day one.

Dual front exterior pockets, a secure zip closure, and an interior that's organized for daily essentials rather than being one big cavern. It's the bag for someone whose day has a lot of different parts to it — the handles make it easy to grab and go, the strap means you can be hands-free when you need to be.

The hand wash finish is the most forgiving leather we carry. It already has character, so anything you do to it just adds more. If you've ever been precious about a bag and hated the feeling, this is the antidote.

Shop the Stuffy Satchel in Black Hand Wash at $284.99, or the Stuffy in Stone Haze Rustic, same price, for the lighter and cleaner version. Either way, the mid-size Bed Stu bags are where you'll find the closest cousins to this one.

4. The Abundance in Black Lux Nectar Lux — 17 sold

Tied with the Stuffy Satchel on units and just behind it on dollars. It's the smallest bag on this list and the one I'd hand to someone buying their first Bed Stu.

The Abundance is built around a patchwork front made from scrap leather left over at the factory — which means two things. It's genuinely a waste-reduction piece rather than a marketing line, and no two are the same. The checkered patchwork gives it personality that a plain panel wouldn't.

It's 9.5 inches wide by 6 high by 2.5 deep, with a removable adjustable crossbody strap, so it works as a sling or comes off the strap entirely and becomes a clutch. Zip-top closure, organic cotton lining, one zip pocket inside.

Who it's for: date night, concerts, travel days where you're carrying a tote anyway and just need your essentials on you. At $219.99 it's also the easiest entry point price-wise on this list — you can see the rest of that bracket in Bed Stu bags $200 to $299.

Shop the Abundance in Black Lux Nectar Lux, or the Abundance in Tan Rustic Nectar Lux if you want warmer, same $219.99. For more of the patchwork look in other shapes, browse the checkered Bed Stu bags.

5. The Rockababy SL in Black Lux Nectar Lux — 14 sold

Two Rockababys in the top five, which tells you everything about that silhouette.

The SL is the same fourteen by nine by four body as our number one, with the same padded shoulder straps and removable adjustable crossbody strap, but with the no-waste patchwork front panel from the Abundance worked into it. So you get the everyday size and the statement front in one bag. One outer zip pocket, one interior zip pocket and two slip pockets, zip-top closure.

Black Lux is the purposely and visibly distressed finish, which means the patchwork reads as layered and lived-in rather than loud. It's the bag for someone who wants a workhorse that doesn't look like one.

Shop the Rockababy SL in Black Lux Nectar Lux at $334.99. It sits in the top price bracket, so if you want to compare it against the rest of that tier, that's Bed Stu bags $300 and up, and the checkered collection has the other patchwork shapes.

What the list actually tells you

Three patterns jumped out when I looked at this:

  • Mid-size wins. Nothing enormous made the top five. The bags that sell are the ones that hold a real day without becoming luggage.
  • Two carry options is close to required. Almost every bag on this list converts between shoulder and crossbody. That's not a coincidence.
  • Patchwork sells. Two of the five have the scrap-leather front. Women want the bag nobody else has, and the no-waste construction guarantees it.

Which one should you get

  • You want one bag that does everything — the Rockababy
  • You want to look polished and you carry light — the Venice Beach
  • You're hard on bags and hate babying them — the Stuffy Satchel
  • You want small, or you're testing the brand — the Abundance
  • You want the everyday size with something to look at — the Rockababy SL

Still torn? Shop by size in small, mid-size, and large, or by budget in under $200, $200 to $299 and $300 and up. And if you're weighing the spend at all, why a Bed Stu bag is worth every penny is the honest version of that math.

Common questions

What is the most popular Bed Stu bag?

At our shop, the Rockababy — by a wide margin, and two versions of it landed in our top five. It's the mid-size silhouette with padded shoulder straps and a removable, adjustable crossbody strap.

Are Bed Stu bags worth it?

They're chrome- and formaldehyde-free vegetable-tanned leather, handmade in León, Mexico, with real hardware. These are bags people carry for years and then re-buy in another color, which is the honest measure.

What size Bed Stu bag should I get?

Mid-size is what sells and what most people end up happy with — roughly 14 by 9 by 4. Go smaller only if you genuinely carry very little. Our size guide walks through it with real measurements.

What does the patchwork on some Bed Stu bags mean?

It's made from scrap leather left over at the factory, so it reduces waste and makes every bag one of a kind. No two patchwork fronts are alike.

Do Bed Stu bags come with a crossbody strap?

The Rockababy, Rockababy SL and Abundance all come with a removable, adjustable crossbody strap. The Stuffy Satchel has an adjustable shoulder strap plus top handles, and the Venice Beach is a crossbody with a 15-inch strap drop.

Which Bed Stu finish holds up best to daily use?

The distressed finishes — Lux and Hand Wash — because the character is already built in and new marks blend into it. Rustic is the clean, smoother finish with a soft sheen, and DD means Dip Dye, a hand-dipped gradient. Our finishes guide covers the differences in full.

Where can I buy Bed Stu bags?

From us, online and in the shop in Kingman. If you're checking whether a seller is legitimate, we covered that in where to buy Bed Stu.
