That two-inch depth is the whole personality of this bag. It's deliberately shallow, which means it sits flat against you and stays sharp-looking rather than bulging out. You'll fit a wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses, and the usual small things. You will not fit a water bottle, and you shouldn't try.

A quick word on Rustic versus Lux
Five of these six are Rustic, which is the clean finish — smooth, even, with a soft sheen. One is Lux, which is purposely distressed with layered, worn-in character built into the leather.
Worth knowing before you pick a color, because it changes the whole feel of the bag more than the shade does. We broke it all down in our guide to Bed Stu leather finishes.
Tan Rustic
The classic, and the one I'd point a first-time buyer toward. A warm mid-brown with the clean Rustic finish, which means it reads polished rather than casual — it works with a blazer as easily as with jeans.
Tan is the color most people picture when they think "good leather bag," and this is that, in the size you'll actually carry.

Black Rustic
Black with the same smooth, even finish. This is the workhorse of the lineup and the one to get if your wardrobe runs cool — navy, grey, black, charcoal — and a warm tan bag has always felt slightly off to you.
It's also the dressiest of the six without trying to be. A clean black flap bag goes anywhere.

Taupe Oats Rustic
The in-between color, and the one I think is underrated. Taupe sits cooler and greyer than tan without going all the way to a true neutral grey, which makes it one of those shades that quietly works with everything in your closet.
If you've ever stood in the shop holding tan in one hand and black in the other and couldn't decide, this is your answer.

Oats Icicle Rustic
The palest of the group — a soft, cool, almost-bone neutral. This is the spring and summer bag, and it's striking in person in a way photos undersell.
Light leather does show more over time, so this is the one I'd condition a little more faithfully. Worth it, because nothing else in the lineup looks like it.

Nectar Lux Tan Rustic
The two-tone, and the most interesting bag of the six. It pairs Nectar Lux — a warm honeyed tan with real distressed depth — against the clean Tan Rustic, so you get both finishes on one bag.
The effect is that it looks like a bag you've owned for years and taken good care of, right out of the box. If you like the idea of Lux but aren't sure you want a fully distressed bag, this is the gentle way in.

Americana Lux
And here's the one that surprised everyone, including me.
Americana Lux is bold, and bold colorways usually move slower than neutrals. This one outsold most of our neutrals and became our number two Bed Stu bag of the year. It's fully distressed Lux leather, and people either fell for it instantly or walked right past it — there was no middle ground.

Taking care of it
Vegetable-tanned leather wants a little attention and then lasts decades. Wipe dirt off with a soft cloth, test any conditioner on a hidden spot first, work it in with light circular motions, let it sit an hour, then buff with a clean microfiber cloth or a horsehair brush. Give it a full day before you carry it again.
Stick with Bed Stu's own products rather than another brand's — their organic finishes don't always agree with conventional formulas. And if you see a little lifting of the finish while you condition, that's expected with organic materials, not damage.

Bed Stu applies its dyes by hand, so every hide takes color a little differently. Variation between your bag and the product photo is expected and is a feature of hand-dyed leather.
